Changes to the Recording of Meal Type Information in SIMS.net

Written by David Almond

A new Dietary panel in the Pupils database provides a new Meal Pattern table, to enable schools to add or edit a pupil/student’s meal pattern through the week. This is designed to replace the existing Meal Type tickbox located within the Additional Information panel.

Existing Meal types will map to new Meal patterns as follows:

  • School Meal and Free Meal – mapped to SM School Meal
  • Home – mapped to HO Home
  • Sandwiches – mapped to PL Packed Lunch
  • Outside School – mapped to OS
  • Other School Cash Cafeteria – mapped to CC Cash Cafeteria

Free School Meal information is extracted from the FSM eligibility record and not from the Meal type ‘Free Meal’, which is no longer provided as a Meal Type.

The Eligible for Free School Meals box which allows schools to enter in start and end dates for FSM pupils has also been moved to the new Dietary panel. (below).

As a result of these changes the Default Meal Type of any new pupils will not be exported to Dinner Money. Default Meal Patterns will need to be manually amended where necessary in the Pupils > Pupil Details area.
